The top of middle school and the high-school on-ramp; the oldest, most independent secondary-underclass students, with the first high-school-credit courses and a moving-up milestone.

Some eighth-grade courses carry high-school credit; the gradebook-of-record already records them to the standard that a transcript will later read.
